His name, Zankuro Minazuki. The evil Zankuro, from time immemorial, has indiscriminately attacked villages, slaughtering all in his way. Falling under his mighty blade, victims screamed in terror of the dreaded demon before drowning in an endless sea of blood. All stood impotent to his evil deeds. But then...In a distanct village, Zankuro failed to kill an infant. Some insist, perhaps the evil one could not kill him. The truth remains unknown. However, on the CD version, you can get blood by choosing "Japan" from the options menu --> SLASH NAKORURU'S POW CAN BE DONE WHILE FLYING ON MAMAHAHA? No way. --> I HEARD THERE'S AN EASY WAY TO PERFORM THE POWER SPECIAL! Yes, but only on the CD version. Apparently, on the CD version of SS3, there are a few tracks at the end, not heard in the game. One is of Nakoruru and Rimururu, talking about the upcoming release of SSRPG. NEW CHARACTERS: SHIZUMARU HISAME --> A young boy with amnesia with only the knowledge of his mother's dying scream...and a thirst for revenge... BASARA THE EXECUTIONER --> Killed by Zankuro, along with his lover. This character's hatred for the demon was so powerful, he rose from the dead to destroy that which Zankuro took away. GAIRA CAFFEINE --> Nicotine's grandson, a miscreant who has been booted out of the buddhist temple...still with fighting spirit in his heart, he is determined also to bring justice to this land by defeating Zankuro. RIMURURU --> Nakoruru's younger sister, who believes that the cause of the trouble stems from Amakusa Shiro Tokisada, the original villan of SS. OPTIONS GALORE... Samurai Shodown III is bursting with new game options to enhance the diversity that this series is famous for...and here's what you get: --> Character Mode: Now all the new and old characters have a "chivalry" (good) or "treachery" (evil) alignmnent. Selecting this will allow you to retain your favourite character's original abilities, or become enhanced, fighting with different attacks and special, significantly doubling the amount of character choices in the game. --> Level Select: Now, three levels of "difficulty" are added to the game; novice, intermediate, and advanced. By selecting the novice level, SS3 sets to less-damaging attacks, and the now famous, Capcom-like "auto-blocking" mode. Play has been altered from that which we have become familiar with in Samurai I and II...now new features and options allow us to relearn all new techniques to become masterless samurai... --> Air Blocking: As it says: All characters can block moves in the air. --> Pre-Fight Maneuvering Before the fight begins, you can maneuver your characters into the proper distance, a la X-Men. --> Costume Change: Every character now has FOUR different colours to choose from. When you are choosing Slash or Bust, press a or b for a different color. --> POW Charge: Pressing and holding ABC will temporarily enhance your pow for halfPOW strikes. --> Dodging: If a good distance from your opponent, you can dodge an attack by pressing AB. --> Sidestep: If close to your opponent, pressing AB will make your character step behind your opponent! --> Guard Crush: You can now grab your opponent, and throw him/her off balance, to follow up with another attack. --> Hop Crush: If your opponent is crouching in defense, you can perform a Hop crush, a quick move that MUST be blocked high. --> No Weapon Breaking Power Specials Power specials no longer destroy the opponent's weapon, just knock it out of their hands. --> Catch Throw: Same as the previous SS's...while weaponless, you can catch your opponent's weapon, and throw them...except now in SS3, you can do it even WITH your weapon in hand... --> Items: The Runner is gone, but bombs and meat are still a part of the SS strategy; these items always have a chance at turning the tides of a fight ...except now, if a bomb is blocked, it will drop your guard and leave you open! ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Question: How do I play as the boss? THE SS1 TITLE SCREEN -- WIND: This is essentially based on the intro to Shodown I, where the narrator gives the laws of the samurai and Haohmaru slices the two lanterns with the lavender trees in the background. Now, however, we get to see the entire courtyard with gigantic lavender trees in the background and many lanterns adorning the stage both in the foreground and all over the background. The lanterns can be cut down by the players. During the desperation, the background becomes a dark violet aura with many layers of color and lavender leaves begin to fall like snow. Large branches of the trees hang in the foreground. CHARACTER POSES: SLASH- Character Select Screen: Lowers himself into a fighting stance, raises his sword in right hand parallel to the side of his face with his elbow up, cradles the right arm with left arm. Rotten trees, dead weeds and lanterns scroll by in the foreground--several layers of parallax. In the river, logs and even occasional bodies with swords and arrows in their backs float by. During desperation, the background turns black and filtered blue light flows onto the stage, while fluorescent green polyps flash on the black background. For the rest of the match, Nakoruru is shaking her head while her father is running his hand over his beard. If Rimururu wins, Nakoruru smiles in relief and her mother begins clapping. If Rimururu loses Nakoruru drops to her knees in sorrow and her mother turns to comfort her as her father covers his face with his hand. During the desperation, the background vanishes and the characters fight in a fierce blizzard. Once one player has won, the tapestry in the background becomes chagnes again. It becomes a picture of Kyoshiro sitting on a stone ground with his naginata. If Kyoshiro loses, it changes to a pictures of Kyoshiro sitting with long tenticles coming out from someplace behind him. A large flat cart, reminiscent of the "Bring out your dead" cart in Monty Python and the Holy Grail, is at the right side of the screen in the immediate background. During the desperation stage, the entire background is replaced by a flowing purple vortex that has a focus at the center of the stage. The back of the temple is open and has a HELL red overcast to it that filters into the shrine. After one player wins the first round, the candles blow out and the stage becomes dark blue. During the desperation points, the entire background becomes black and candles appear in various places, floating in air. Spot lights light up a wall that has now appeared in the background, revealing many strange and unusual images. The pictures are probably representative of what existed back when the temple was in its prime. CHARACTER POSES: SLASH- Character Select Screen: He starts laughing, steps back, raises his weapon over his head and then stretches the chain between his outstretched arms. Before Round One: A portal opens up in the ground and Basara launches out of it, spins once in the air and then lands, doing a real quick pose where he raises his blade over his head before going into his normal stance. 1st Win: He stretches the chain of his weapon between his two arms then a ghostly image of his beloved appears at his side. 2nd Win: Basara holds out his arms and a ghostly image of his slain lover drops into his arms. He looks down to her with obvious delight, but a second later, the image turns into a soul and then fades away into a decaying skeleton. Basara drops the bones from his arms and drops to his knees in utter frustration releasing a heart rendering cry of agony. AMAKUSA SHIRO TOKISADA "The weak deserve death!" PILLARS -- NIGHT: This stage is positively apocalyptic! Nothing forebodes evil presence like this stage. There are four pillars lined up in the immediate background, and slightly behind them and in between the central two there is a large ring of stones similar to Stonehege. During the first round a large rock capsule with two halves comes down to the center of the background. The halves of the capsule rotate independent of one an other in opposite directions. In the second round, they start spinning farther away from each other and an energy sphere appears between them and lights appear on the top of the pillars in the background. The sky is a deep crimson which comes down and melds with large purple mountains in the background. During the desperation, most of the background disappears. The pillars still remain, the capsule has vanished. A vortex appears on the central pillar in the background and sucks in glowing energy spheres similar to the one that was held in the capsule. Each ending in SS3, albeit disappointing, works in this format: Zankuro makes a short speech, and then, each particular character makes a short speech, depending on who you play. Here they are, with exact spelling and grammar from the game: ZANKURO: "You're great!" "I yield not!" "Foolish warrior. Drunk with power, you failed to see the tragic end. The true enemy lies within. I know it's tough to find one's own way... You fought well... ...you have my gratitude." AMAKUSA SHIRO TOKISADA: "Listen, humans. Worship your new savior! In the fires of hell, let your passion bring action! And pledge your faith to me! Humans! Follow me into darkness. Do not think! Act as you feel! And obey me forever!!!" BASARA THE EXECUTIONER: Basara finds only darkness. His lover slain, all emotions spent, the battle has concluded. He finds only gloom. Hate, his last emotion, is now but a remnant. Darkness. All is darkness. But within the cool dark, shines a pale light. GAIRA CAFFEINE: "Pitiful fool." Taking Zankuro's dead hand, he prays. "You could have succeeded, without resorting to evil." KIBAGAMI GENJURO: Genjuro Kibagami, Japan's mythic warrior. Kibagami, the assasin, has slain the evil Zankuro. "You call this guy tough? It seems Haohmaru does have an inferior after all!" Taking his sizable reward, Kibagami disappears. "The world bores me... What is he up to now? No matter, for we'll meet again, Haohmaru. For the last time!" HATTORI HANZO: And so, Hanzo defeated the evil demon, destroyer of villages, scourge of peasants. "The endless death, the orphan's cries echo... no matter how familiar I become with evil, you I do not forgive. To Hell!" Hanzo disappears in the rain, leaving Zankuro's corpse. HAOHMARU: Haohmaru, born in Japan's wilderness. versed in the sword's ways. Invincible at age 15, defeated by the mighty Jubei, he awoke from his conceit to travel the world training. ERROR...ERROR...ERROR... Samurai Shodown 3 suffers from a small problem that 2 and 1 didn't (at least, not to such a great extent): It has bugs. Big time. SS3 is constantly being caught for bugs, and here are the ones that have been presently found: -- UKYO CAN FLY! UKYO CAN FLY! Ukyo has been reported to be seen flying off the top of the screen while perform his POW if both characters are in the red. -- WHAT? EH? SPEAK UP!
